England Swings: A Beginner's Guide

There are many factors towards the legacy of film in the 60's but there is one facet that is the most important: The British invaded movie screens.

For one magical period Great Britain experienced a revival and single handily created what we not know as "Pop Culture." At the center of this explosion (music, fashion, art, photography) was the movies. England had been in the film business since the silent days but in the 1960's, in the shadow of the French, Swedish, and Italian film renaissance (known as "The New Wave") the British film industry came up with their own new blend of movies and they just about blew away all the European countries. Not since the Germans in the 1920's had one country (other than the U.S.) put the cinema on its ears.

To celebrate this and the birth of "The British Invasion" I will focus on some of these movies in the coming postings. From comedy all the way down to drama and suspense I'll review some of the British movies from that decade.
